Mariah Gruner
I'm a PhD student in American Studies at Boston University, studying gender and material culture. In particular, I'm interested in American embroidery and the ways this medium has been used to construct, display, and challenge understandings of femininity. I'm interested in the political capacities of craft and the historical meanings that accrue to material practices. I am also fascinated by the ways in which communities like sewing circles manifest digitally.
